We never forget the people who step up for us in life's toughest moments.

When you're faced with someone who is deep in grief, you can feel unsure of what to do or say, or how best to offer support. But with the right tools and guidance, you can make a real difference.

At Grief Maps, we empower individuals, communities and workplaces to provide compassionate, effective grief support. Whether your role involves interacting with the bereaved on a regular basis, or you want to contribute towards a more grief-informed culture in your organisation, we’re here to guide you how to provide comfort, understanding, and support during life’s most challenging moments.

Three elements make up the Grief Map solution: expertly crafted live training sessions, self-learn content & resources, and our innovative paper based Grief Map.

What does grief cost?

It costs a lot, if you track grief absenteeism, presenteeism, reduced productivity, increased staff turnover, you will know this.  If you do not track grief, then as the saying goes, "you don't know what you don't know".

Grieving is a healthy, natural and essential process, that can be accepted and embraced, or resisted and stifled, then it can become complicated.
None of us will escape grief, many will not understand it, some will deny it. Our healthy adaptation and return to being a productive member of our family, community and workplace depends upon our ability to grow and adapt around our grief.

Innovative, affordable and scaleable

Due to the flexible modular componants of Grief Maps, we are able to ripple the knowledge and skills right to the edge of your workplace and deep into the community.

The map
will be a tool to keep hold off, constantly referenced, and used as a guide throughout your supportive conversations, giving you confidence and insights to share.

The self-learning
modules will continually grow and evolve, remaining accessible, and meeting new needs like assisted dying and the need for understanding around that.

The trainer-led Zoom
sessions will be conducted at flexible times, to meet your needs and schedule, providing taht opportunity to connect and ask questions.

More than just a complimentary solution

The ability to empower people on the front line of your organisation, means that the knowledge is not limited to a few core people, it is equally distributed. This means that support, if offered in a timely and personable way, by someone you know, that person to the left and right of you, will make an incredible difference to the healing process.

Your clients, service users and customers will all benefit, from a grief aware workforce.

Your organisation will have a bereavement policy, maybe a strategy, in-house counsellors, which are all useful when accessed.

EAP structures are a powerful tool, but one that has become increasingly recognised as being used by less than 3% of the workforce.

Our intention is that greif maps will empower the majority, facilitating a psychologically safe space to grieve.

What do our students say...

Martin’s knowledge of the subject and his calming manner in the delivery of the course makes it a very safe learning space in which the delegates thrive.
Metropolitan Police
Trudie’s presentation was one of the best that I have heard for a long time – and I have attended some brilliant events! I was captivated – not just by the subject and her experience but also by her style and warmth.
Cruse Wales
This training was truly special! Not only did it help me with navigating tricky conversations and emotional subjects at work, it has really helped me with my communication in my personal life too. I learnt so much more than I thought I would from Martin and his approach to the subject was refreshing & engaging!

Martin Roddis

I consult, create and deliver innovative content to help organisations build foundational skills when interacting with the bereaved. I co-created the Grief First Aid course for Cruse, raising awareness of grief in the workplace, as well as developing the pilot for the peer-to-peer support service for those bereaved by suicide. I am a Cruse trainer, with extensive training experience in every sector, from volunteers to blue light services to the NHS to financial services to media.

Trudie Bamford

I research, write and create much of the content we produce for our training products. I also deliver training for organisations like Cruse, on topics ranging from neurodivergence & grief to traumatic loss.

I am also a grief counsellor with extensive experience of supporting people after bereavement, with specialist experience and knowledge on traumatic grief, such as after a suicide or drug overdose.

Tailored to your needs, if you want to...

Bespoke is an option.

Our initial grief map has been designed to be both comprehensive and suitable for most needs, but there are some industries and charities that will require a slightly different, enhanced focus. In collaboration, we are developing a range of maps to meet these needs. If you would like one, please call Martin.

Delivered sensitively, keeping trainees psychologically safe.

Topics surrounding death, grief & loss can be challenging to talk about, but we have experience in how to create a safe training environment where training clients can thrive, whether that is in our live sessions, or in the self-learning content and the community that will develop there.

Relatable and transferable knowledge.

The insights you will get in this training will be useful across your life, from work to community to family. Grief is a part of the human condition, but when we learn how to adapt and grow around our grief, the less life complications we encounter.

Our Grief Maps

Each grief map comes with a foundational self-learning module, covering some of the basic but essential lessons, like self-care, communication skills and specific modules to your industry sector. Once completed you can apply to join the 90-minute trainer led sessions, which will be held frequently throughout the month.

This is where we will embed your self-learning and build upon that knowledge. The course resources will be constantly updated and evolve to meet our clients needs.

Our intention is for this to be a process of learning and building your understanding and skillset, rather than a one-off training session. Grief is never "one and done", neither are we.

Using this modular approach will ensure that information integrity is maintained for every course. Consistency and innovation will keep the knowledge contemporary and relevant.

As the grief maps are made available to the public, they will appear in the section below. Some maps/courses and material that is being developed for clients will remain private and not visible.

These courses will be enjoyable, and yes, if you are actively grieving, they have the potential to help, but check in with us first.

Specialist Subject, Trainer Led, 3-hour Courses

Standalone Self-learn Modules: bundled with your Grief map or purchased individually.

Access to these modules are included in our trainer-led Grief Map Courses, as self-learning modules, but you can also purchase them in their own right. They include self-care, communication skills, and many other speciality subjects.

We are more than willing to collaborate with your organisation to create modules to meet your organisations needs.

As we bring the modules online, they will appear here.
